Do your club members rent their cars out?
We get asked this a lot so we put it here. For photo shoot, very likely yes, but otherwise probably not. Maybe for family or close friends, but usually not to strangers. Ultimately the risk and hassles out-weigh the wear on the car and any earned money from doing so. You can ask us but you are probably better off using DriveShare or finding a local limo provider that has classics.
-
Increased insurance if we do it on a regular basis.
- Most of us have a policy that covers occasional driving for events and shows with limited miles/year and no night time driving.
- If we regularly rent, and we'd have to in order to be worthwhile, then we have to pay more insurance as we might exceed these limitations.
-
Increased risk something happens to the car.
- The more we drive it the more risk it breaks down or we get in accident.
-
Safety Issues
- Cars prior to 1963 were less likely to include seat belts.
- Antiques are even less likely.
- This would turn off most renters and might put owners's in a legal situation if something were to happen.
-
We would likely implement some set, or all, of the following rules, which many people, not understanding the hobby or used to respecting a classic or collectable car, would object to:
- Only we drive our cars. So you'd have to pay for the car's time and ours.
- We're only driving in nice weather.
- No food or beverage in the car. Stains and crumbs are not welcome by car owners.
- Limited range for driving - we're not taking you to New York or Atlantic City.
- Limited set of people in the car. We're not offering everyone a ride or a chance to sit in the car.
- Probably no kids in the car. We're not anti-child its just that they don't know and they love to mess with stuff, especially stuff they've never seen before (locks, manual window handles, any buttons near by, winged windows, etc.). They don't mean to, but they break stuff and there's too much in the car for them to break.
- We need your hands and feet/shoes to be clean.
